Training Courses

You are here: Home / Training Courses

WBB has been a leader in training military, government, and corporate professionals since 1996. We develop course curricula by drawing from the extensive expertise of our veteran staff. Comprehensive training is offered in a variety of training packages and formats in support of government and industry clients who work directly with the Department of Defense (DoD) capabilities, requirements, acquisition, and financial management communities.

WBB leverages the expertise of subject matter experts who have hands-on experience with the requirements generation, budgeting, program acquisition, and congressional processes.

Training courses can be presented at a WBB training facility or client site. Class sizes and course lengths vary based on course content. Mid-grade professional training classes are normally one or two days with 15–30 students, while executive training often consists of one half-day of one-on-one instruction. WBB training courses are usually podium-based using PPT slides, although some training can be provided in a web-based format.

Our Approach

WBB training courses are flexible in content and scalable in duration and content complexity. Individual course content can be tailored to address specific client training objectives. Course material is constantly updated, reflecting the latest practices and lessons learned. Curriculum development and presentation leverage the extensive expertise of our uniquely qualified team instructors, most of whom are former senior career military and government leaders who remain active in the disciplines they instruct. They are well-recognized subject matter experts.

Multiple course options are available:

  • One- or two-day curricula for mid-grade professionals and program managers.
  • Basic-level introductory classes for new hires and interns.
  • Executive courses for senior management (General Officer, Flag Officer, Senior Executive Service, or Senior Corporate Executives).
  • “Hot Topics” for targeted seminar events.

Course pricing is based on course content, presentation location, number of students, and amount of curriculum tailoring. Open enrollment courses are offered periodically, providing an option to purchase individual seats.

DoD Clients

Below is a summary of the many customers for whom WBB has provided tailored training courses:

Navy customers

WBB training began in 1996 with a DoD Introductory Course for newly reported Navy Staff Requirements Officers. The Requirements officer course evolved into the widely recognized “How Washington Works” series of Washington introductory training courses. Navy training customers have grown to include the following:

  • Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV). WBB has provided training for several of the OPNAV divisions, including executive training for many flag officers as they report for duty in the Pentagon. One OPNAV Rear Admiral recently commented in a class critique: “All of the presentations were well presented. The reference material will be useful going forward.”
  • Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). For the past four years WBB training courses have served NAVAIR needs for continuing education as well as introductory training. We present multiple “How Washington Works” courses and “Hot Topics Forum” seminars annually. WBB also developed a unique new course entitled “Introduction to the Acquisition Environment” for NAVAIR new hires and interns.
  • Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR). WBB developed tailored curriculum for SPAWAR in the form of seven unique Technical and Systems Engineering Support training courses.
  • Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Africa (CNA). In response to the CNA requirements to provide action-officer training on Africa-centric issues, WBB’s Africa subject matter expert developed a course curriculum that has been used to assist CNA staff officers in learning about Africa.

Other DoD Clients

  • Headquarters U.S. Marine Corps. WBB’s unique “How Washington Works” course was specially tailored for the needs of officers serving on the staff of the Deputy Commandant, Plans, Policies, and Operations.
  • Program Manager Cargo Helicopters (Army). Multiple courses have been delivered in Huntsville, AL in support of the Cargo Helicopters Program Office.
  • U.S. Army Engineering Research and Development Center — Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (ERDC-CRREL)
