Congratulations to Von Hawley, VP Capture and Proposal Development, and Karthik Srinivasan, Director of Innovation, for their seven day climb up Mount Kilimanjaro. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, and the highest free-standing (not part of a mountain range) mountain in the world at 19,340 feet above sea level. On July 1st, Von completed the climb, while novice climber Karthik made it to the incredible height of 17,000 feet.
During a conversation with one of the African guides, he was asked how many times he had climbed Kilimanjaro, to which he replied, “200 times.” A climber then asked “How do you do that so many times, isn’t that tough?” He replied, “That’s my office up there at 19,340 feet. This is my job and I go to my office everyday”.
As much as we might wish it, there are no shortcuts to the top. To get to the summit requires focus and the persistence to put one foot in front of the other hour after hour, day after day. There were numerous reinforcements of commitment to customers, service and performance to learn from during their challenging trip to Africa.
