WBB supported the Goddard School in Herndon’s special STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) week with a focus on Aviation. WBB’s Mark “Irish” Gibson and Josh “SAC” Atkinson, both former USMC Aviators, taught the kids about aviation training and the purpose that aircraft serves in our military, along with some paper airplane and rotary wing toy fun.
“We thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the 4-5-year-old students at The Goddard School. Their demonstration of the jet ‘flight simulator’ that they built was especially interesting,” said Irish Gibson. “It was very rewarding to see their interest in aviation and the happy smiles on their faces.”
In addition to building the jet ‘flight simulator,’ students also conducted ‘test flights’ of the paper airplanes and plastic helicopter demonstrators.
“This type of hands on learning gives the students a productive yet fun way of learning science and math,” said Jana Morrisey, lead teacher in PreK II class.
