Today, hundreds of Veterans living in Southern Maryland are facing very difficult challenges, including homelessness complicated by unemployment, healthcare issues, and drug and alcohol addiction. In a population that so greatly deserves our support, WBB is supporting the Three Oaks Center in establishing the Southern Maryland Veterans Initiative and a Veterans Stand Down Day to focus on the needs of service Veterans.
The Southern Maryland Veteran’s Stand Down Day will be a one day event to raise awareness of Veteran’s issues across the region and to demonstrate the communities’ commitment to our Veterans. On May 16, all local Veterans and their families will be invited to the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center in California, MD, from 9am to 2pm to meet with doctors, dentists, mental health professionals, lawyers, clergy, housing specialists, employment counselors, and potential employers, all of whom are volunteering their services to help Southern Maryland Veterans. The event will include guest speakers; interactive workshops; direct counseling; job coaching; and health, housing, and legal support.
WBB employees have helped organize the event and will be active as volunteers the day of. If you are interested in participating, please contact Patricia Brady at [email protected].
