WBB announces release of new whitepaper for The Center for Internet Security (CIS)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

WBB Consulting is pleased to announce that Joel Kirch, Manager Information Assurance Programs, is releasing a new whitepaper for The Center for Internet Security (CIS) that will serve as the foundation for future virtual machine benchmarks. Joel Kirch, the technical lead and primary author of "General Virtual Machine Security Hardening Whitepaper", advises that the results published in the CIS whitepaper will provide the foundation for the soon to be released VMware ESX Server benchmark.

Virtual Machines provide for multiple operating systems to be run simultaneously on the same hardware, saving energy, space and computing costs. As such, a single server can hold the computing power that used to require a rack of individual servers.

As more organizations are adopting this virtual technology, experts are concerned that their deployment is outpacing the development of security standards necessary to safeguard them. Enter the Center for Internet Security (CIS) – a non-profit organization that deals with the "Who, What, When, and Where" aspects of security by focusing on the "How" through the creation of security benchmarks. "CIS fosters a collaborative environment for Industry, Academia, Government and Military which distills theoretical ideas into the best practical security solutions for system administrators," said Kirch. He should know because this is the second benchmark development he has led along with participation in the development of over half a dozen others.

The whitepaper is available at the Center for Internet Security website, www.cisecurity.org.
