National Guard Association Elects WBB Consultant

April 7, 2008
Whitney, Bradley & Brown, Inc.

The National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS) has elected Don Akers to its Corporate Advisory Panel, bringing WBB Consulting into an active and recognizable role in support of the National Guard.

Akers is the Manager of Tactical Wheeled Vehicle (TWV) Programs at WBB. He is a retired Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) Soldier with over 20 years of active service as a Field Artillery Officer in the Virginia National Guard. He served in key staff positions from platoon to division, and commanded at Battery and Battalion levels.

While still in uniform, Akers was active in the National Guard Association and the Virginia National Guard Association of the United States, representing his brigade on the Field Artillery Advisory Committee.

Since retirement from the Virginia National Guard, Akers' attention has focused on force protection and survivability of TWVs. He was the principal author of the Army's TWV Long-Term Armoring Strategy (LTAS).

Over the past three years, Akers has actively participated in numerous working groups and integrated process teams for add-on-armor for current TWVs. His efforts in the Joint Improvise Explosive Device Defeat Organization's Mitigate sub-Integrated Process Team have made him a recognized Subject Matter Expert in vehicle protection.

Akers now consults to numerous commercial suppliers and government leaders. He is the Program Manager for a WBB contract to support the Tank-Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) TWV Survivability Advanced Technology Objective.

NGAUS, formed in 1878, represents current and former Army and Air National Guard officers. WBB is grateful and appreciative of the National Guard's role in securing our nation both at home and across the world. We are fulfilling our goal to become a full and active partner with the National Guard.
