WBB is proud to recognize Vice President and retired US Navy Captain Paul X. Rinn for his induction into the Surface Navy Hall of Fame. The award recognizes those who have made an exceptionally significant contribution to the Continental Navy, US Surface Navy, or to Surface Navy Warfare, whether as a member of the armed services or as a civilian.
Rinn’s recognition is for his actions while serving as the Commanding Officer of USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58). On April 14, 1988 the ship struck an Iranian mine sustaining catastrophic damage, progressive flooding, fire, loss of propulsion and electric power, and personnel injuries. Commander Rinn led his heroic crew in stopping the progressive flooding, controlling the sinking of the ship, and extinguishing the fires. He then evacuated his wounded sailors and safely navigated his crippled ship out of the mine field, at one point passing between two submerged mines separated by only a few hundred yards. Through Rinn's actions, Roberts was able to transit 24 miles on auxiliary power units and clear the mine danger area saving the ship without the loss of a single sailor.
The Surface Navy Association (SNA) was incorporated in 1985 to promote greater coordination and communication among those in the military, business and academic communities who share a common interest in Naval Surface Warfare and to support the activities of Surface Naval Forces.
WBB, established in 1981 by J. Richard Brown, is an employee owned company with more than 325 employees and $73M revenue. Paul Rinn joined WBB in 1998 after retiring from the US Navy. He is Vice President of Management Consulting.
