Customer: US Navy

Problem: A US Navy Program Manager required the establishment of a risk management program and a risk management methodology that was in compliance with DoD acquisition directives. This program and methodology had to accurately identify, assess, mitigate (where appropriate), monitor, and document all program risks.

Challenge: WBB drafted a Risk Management Plan that established a risk management organization, assigned risk management responsibilities, defined risk assessment criteria, and put into place a sound methodology to manage all program risks. In its role as the program Risk Management Coordinator, WBB facilitated Risk Management Board (RMB) meetings, trained RMB members on risk management tools and techniques, managed the web-based risk database, and represented the Program Office at industry team RMB meetings.

Value: The Navy Program Manager was kept abreast of significant risks to his program and could effectively make decisions, in conjunction with appropriate Navy risk owners, on mitigation options for specific program risks. The Program Office was also able to quickly provide high and low-level risk assessments to Navy and DoD leadership and was provided good insight into the risks that industry teams were managing.
