Customer: NASA Exploration Systems Mission Directorate
Challenge: When NASA first established the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate (ESMD), the new organization’s Associate Administrator needed assistance at the strategic level – and specific support for the Development Programs and Requirements Divisions. Proper organizational alignment, a thorough requirements analyses and a full assessment of the organization’s legacy programs were all essential to the foundation of this new directorate.
Approach: WBB was called in, and took immediate action by conducting a comprehensive review of the current operating policies and procedures of NASA. During this discovery phase, WBB used Group Systems™ collaborative software to facilitate a strategy session. This session helped the group determine the applicable elements of the recently revised DoD Capability Requirements and Acquisition processes, aligned those changes with the current and proposed NASA operating environment, and provided actionable outcomes. WBB then assisted NASA in framing decision criteria for the requirements generation and development process. Based on this process, the integrated NASA/WBB team conducted a joint review of the existing portfolio of the ESMD products and services and examined the group’s strategic objectives.
Value: WBB's team of subject matter experts used their requirements, acquisition, portfolio management, and programmatic expertise to assist in the development, documentation, and execution of the ESMD mission. This lead to an executable investment strategy from which NASA’s decision-makers could implement informed choices.
