Maneuver and Sustainment from Strategic Distances - Hybrid Aircraft Concept

Customer: Major Defense Prime Contractor

Challenge: WBB was requested to evaluate the utility of hybrid aircraft systems to DOD in executing maneuver and sustainment from strategic distances. Key items in this evaluation were:

  • Validation of hybrid aircraft technology relevance to meet DOD needs
  • Development of a likely DOD implementation concept of operations (CONOPS)
  • Identification of candidate DOD customers to operate these systems

Approach/Methodology: WBB developed a CONOPS for hybrid aircraft systems in the context of 2015 Joint operations in 2015. WBB integrated current Joint and Service doctrine as well as relevant operational concepts. The CONOPS focused upon employment to facilitate Maneuver and Sustainment from Strategic Distances in the 2015 timeframe and identification and description of the key "operational capabilities" required.

WBB Value: The CONOPS provided the major defense prime with the baseline operational context for follow-on a assessment to include:

  • Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis
  • Trade studies
  • DODAF architectures
  • Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS).

The CONOPS developed by WBB provided the essential foundation to collaboratively shape hybrid aircraft requirements with a DOD customer. The CONOPS highlighted the prime’s detailed understanding of DOD Joint sustainment requirements which was instrumental in helping to build relationships with potential DOD customers.
