Jim Moentmann
Manager, Army Warfare Requirements
Jim Moentmann joined WBB in August of 2009 after a distinguished 28 year career in the Army. He brings with him experience in strategic planning, concept development, joint air-ground integration, C2 systems and joint doctrine. He is an accomplished rotary wing aviator with experience in attack, cavalry and assault units. In addition to commanding aviation units at the company, battalion and brigade levels, he has served in a number of other critical positions.
His most recent assignments in the Army were Executive Officer for the Commanding General of US Army Europe, Director of the Army Joint Support Team at Hurlburt Field and Nellis Air Force Base, Chief of Staff for Combined Forces Command – Afghanistan, Chief of Strategic Plans, Concepts and Doctrine for the Army Staff and Commander of the 2nd Infantry Division Aviation Brigade.
Jim has gained regional expertise in Europe with assignments at Allied Forces Southern Europe in Naples Italy, IFOR Headquarters in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina and US Army Europe in Heidelberg, Germany. As a Division Chief on the DA Staff, he was responsible for producing the Army’s Strategic Planning Guidance in 2004 and 2005, leading the Army’s development of joint concepts for future warfare and preparing the quarterly Army input to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Strategic Risk Assessment which is presented to the President and Congress. As Chief of Staff in Kabul, Afghanistan, Jim managed all aspects of the operation of the Combined Forces Command Headquarters and Operation Enduring Freedom, including a multi-billion dollar budget for a 30,000 person force. That assignment also included strategic level coordination with the Afghan President, his Ministers, the US Embassy and a wide range of other governmental and non-governmental agencies. He also led the establishment of a theater level system for assessing progress toward campaign objectives and synchronizing the activities of all staff elements and subordinate units.
He is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic Course, the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, the Command and General Staff College and the Army War College. He holds a Bachelor Degree from West Point (Aerospace Engineering) a Masters Degree from the University of North Carolina (Regional Economic Geography, China) and a Masters Degree from the Army War College (Strategic Studies). Jim also attended the prestigious British High Command and Staff Course at Shrivenham, England.
